Shown and created at the Modular Festival 2026, this immersive installation transformed a disused gas holder into a large-scale audiovisual experience.
Projected onto a 27-meter-wide textile structure using five projectors, the installation contrasted the joyful atmosphere of the festival with the reality of people risking their lives while crossing the Mediterranean. Combining moving images, sound, and architecture, the work invited visitors to reflect on a humanitarian crisis that often remains distant and unseen.

I was responsible for the overall idea, projection mapping at the location, and the development of the abtract visuals.
The installation filled the enormous cylindrical space with light, transforming its industrial architecture into an emotional, aesthetic environment. It combines this experience with concise factual information, presented through minimal typography.
concept — happy festival meets unfiltered reality
One of the central ideas was the contrast between two very different realities:
At regular intervals, a live camera transmitted the festival's main stage into the installation. Moments later, the image dissolved into documentary footage about sea rescue in the Mediterranean.
The audience suddenly found themselves confronted with two worlds existing at the same time: celebration inside the festival and the life-threatening reality experienced by people forced to flee across the sea.

The project was initiated and realized entirely by the Modular Crew, a volunteer team of artists, designers, technicians, and creatives.
The SOS Humanity Augsburg volunteer group supported the installation with research, fact-checking, written content, and their presence throughout the festival. Their expertise ensured that the project communicated the topic responsibly while remaining an artistic experience.
