lichtmess — ceiling projections and spatial lighting

Lichtmess is a site-specific theatre performance developed together with Bluespots Productions. It's staged in the historic bathhouse Altes Stadtbad in Augsburg.

The audience becomes part of the performance — entering the water, surrounded by live music, light and projections.

Inspired by the ancient holiday of Maria Lichtmess, the project celebrates the return of light after winter through a shared, ritualistic experience. Lichtmess opens Bluespots series Church of new Realities. We take existing religious holidays but focusing on human needs for celebration and remembrance rather than faith or doctrine.

my contribution

My role focused on abstract ceiling projections, designed specifically for the architecture of the old bathhouse and the performance.

The projections above and the spatial light within the space were closely linked. The lights extend the projections vertically and envelope the audience from all sides. Both visuals and lighting were tightly synchronized with the live music, allowing rhythm, intensity, and atmosphere to shape the space in real time.
