waterdome — an audiovisual symphony.
Waterdome is an audiovisual symphony for planetariums, produced for the media art festival lab30 in Augsburg and screened worldwide.
Abstract images and sounds represent the theme of water — expressed through shifting colors, fascinating perspectives, and especially in its movement. The work reflects both Augsburg’s historic water management system and the current global situation of our planet.
behind the scenes
The visuals are accompanied by a spatial sound composition based on field recordings from Augsburg’s rivers, waterworks, reservoirs, and fountains. Rather than documenting reality, Waterdome approaches water through artistic interpretation, movement, and atmosphere.
my contribution
My main scene focuses on environmental pollution.
At first, fish move freely through the dome. They are surrounded by open space. Gradually, more and more plastic appears — until it finally displaces the fish entirely.
The plastic is deliberately shown in beautiful light. Its colors and movement are visually appealing, almost mesmerizing. In this moment, the tragedy of the scene can easily be forgotten.
The scence draws a parallel to life on Earth.
In my opinion, it's important to enjoy beauty. But it is just as important not to forget what lies beneath it. For me, the scene is not about accusation, but awareness.
